Teaching Culture, Creativity, and Character—One Festival at a Time

On 12 September 2024, Peninsula Private School organised a Mid-Autumn Festival activity for Primary 1 to 3 students, aiming to deepen their understanding of cultural traditions and foster creativity. The Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated across various Asian cultures, symbolises unity and gratitude. Traditionally, it involves family gatherings, moon gazing, and sharing mooncakes, reflecting the festival’s emphasis on togetherness and appreciation.

The activity encouraged students to express their interpretation of the full moon through art, promoting creative thinking and cultural appreciation. Engaging in such creative tasks not only enhances students’ artistic skills but also develops their fine motor skills, promoting control and precision in their movements.

By introducing students to traditional festivals, the school plays a part in preserving and promoting cultural traditions for future generations.

Incorporating cultural activities into the curriculum not only enriches students’ learning experiences but also aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable development through education. By fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity and heritage, the school prepares students to contribute positively to a multicultural world.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasises education’s role in promoting cultural diversity and the appreciation of cultural heritage.

By immersing students in cultural activities, the school fosters an appreciation for cultural diversity, contributing to the development of well-rounded global citizens.

Furthermore, the school’s commitment to integrating cultural education supports SDG 11, which calls for strengthening efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural heritage.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

SDG 4: Quality Education

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
